P.B. = "Prior to Britannia, Prior to the date that the kingdom of Britannia was established."

A.B. = "After Britannia, after the data that the kingdom of Britannia was established."

[700,000 P.B]
Zog casts Armageddon. (U6, wisps) The Ancient world that will be one day known as Sosaria becomes barren and lifeless. The history, the races and the name of the ancient world is forgotten and lost for all time.

[200,000 P.B]
The first sign of life appears on the world since Zog cast Armageddon. It is the Ancient Yew Oak sprout.

[25,000 P.B]
Barbaric human tribes with others species of animals, along with other races, arrive on the ancient world. The method of their arrival is unknown. Possibly moongates.

[5000 P.B]
It is around this era that the world is given the name of 'Sosaria'. Civilizations begin to form. Magic is discovered and the cult of runes form. Ancient Towns are built. A group of powerful rune cult mages built the following places: The Tower of Knowledge and the Pillars of Protection.

[3000 P.B]
The cult of Truth is founded. Their order are mystic healers. Their headquarters are located in the depths of the Stygian Abyss, where they oversee the training of the cult of Runes initiates. Members of their order travel among the ancient towns, offering their powers for healing.

[1000 P.B]
Humans drive the Cyclops race underground. (U1 doc)

[700 P.B]
Humans leave the ancient homeland continent that will one day be called the Lands of Lord British and spread across the globe. A kingdom who casts off the name of the ruler with the tradition of the their descendants calling themselves 'The Lost King' rule the future Lands of Lord British along with the Kingdom of Akalabeth. The world is divided into squabbling kingdoms across three other continents:

The Lands of the Dark Unknown divided by the kingdom of the Black Dragon and the Kingdom of Olympus.

The Lands of Danger and Despair ruled solely by the Kingdom of the White Dragon.

The Lands of the Feudal Lords divided by the Kingdom of Barataria and the kingdom of Rondorin.

[350 P.B]
The towns of Yew, Grey, Fawn, Dextron and Paws are founded, along with the twin Montors.

[306 P.B.]
Mondain's father, Wolfgang, is born. He becomes King of a region in Sosaria known as Akalabeth.

[278 P.B.]
Wolfgang's first son, Gerarn [Menton], is born.

[273 P.B.]
Wolfgang's second son, Mondain, is born.

[271 P.B.]
Richard Cantabrigian arrives in Sosaria through a blue moongate, and meets Shamino. Shamino gives him the nickname 'British'. They become the best of friends and in time Shamino introduces British to various court advisors, who are impressed with the teenager's knowledge of justice, government and law.

[258 P.B.]
At age 15, Mondain's strange ways become a worry to his father Wolfgang, and he tells the youth he must take a year off from studying magic, and spend this time instead studying at an Abbey to learn compassion and humility. He promises Mondain the Ruby Sun Gem as his reward if he learns his lessons well at the Abbey. The next night, Mondain kills his father, and takes his ruby sun gem. Gerarn, or 'Menton' as he now calls himself, returns from studying at the Tower of Knowledge and confronts Mondain, horrified over his father's murder. Through untrained use of the Ruby sun gem, Mondain banishes Menton offworld.

Mondain uses the ruby gem against itself, beginning to corrupt it into the Gem of Immortality. He retreats to Barataria, a kingdom in the Lands of the Dark Unknown.

With the death of Wolfgang, the advisors look for a successor to the kingdom of Akalabeth. None are found. Richard Cantabrigian, along with other advisors and council members, maintain the kingdom of Akalabeth under the direction of The Lost King.

[255 P.B.]

Mondain crosses man/Baratarian bull to create minotaurs.

The Ruby Sun gem grows more and more into the Gem of Immortality.

Mondain leads an army against Akalabeth for unknown reasons.

[253 P.B.]
British unites Akalabeth and The Lost King into a sizable enough army to withstand Mondain's forces. He drives Mondain from his corner of Sosaria ("Akalabeth"), and becomes Lord British. (Aka doc)

[252 P.B.]
With the blessing of the Lost King, the lands of Akalabeth are changed to the Lands of Lord British and the capital of Akalabeth to 'Britain'. Various heroes enter the service of Lord British, ridding the local realm of monsters, and earning the title "Knight".

By performing vile experiments on his own servants, Mondain crosses his own servants with reptiles and creates the Lizardmen, or Thepa. (U1 doc; Lizard Man)

Shamino returns to the "Lands of Danger and Despair" and establishes his own kingdom in alliance with the Kingdom of the White Dragon. He meets and falls in love with Beatrix, daughter of the White Dragon king.

[251 P.B.]
Various Lords of Sosaria outlaw the practice of magic. (U1 doc)

Presence of sea monsters confirmed as the frigate Pembroke is sunk by one in plain sight of a small armada. (U1 doc; Ness Creature)

Lord British brings over several friends from his homeworld of Earth: Gwenno, Iolo, Dupre, Chuckles and Geoffrey.

Mondain completes the transformation of the Ruby Sun Gem into the Gem of Immortality and becomes immortal himself.

Mondain recruits help from "starwalking monsters of unparalleled savagery". (U1 doc)

Minax is born.

Mondain discovers a method of breaching Time and Space and sends his stronghold into a Timeless void known as 'The Time of Legends.' It is from here he controls his growing armies and Sosarian lieutenants.

Three powerful mages enter his service and bind themselves to the Gem of Immortality. They shed their life and become the three liche kings for Mondain.

[240 P.B.]
At age eleven, Minax is apprenticed to Mondain. (U2 doc)

[235 P.B.]
In the Lands of the Feudal Lords, a bloodthirsty warlord known as 'Belo Ondariva' rises his house to power and threatens to conquer all the lands. Through several battles the Ondarivas are defeated by a brief alliance of Rondorin and Barataria. Belo and the other bloodthirsty Ondarivan's are slain by a good hearted faction from their own family. Some survivors of the good Ondarivan faction flee to the Lands of Lord British.

[215 P.B.]
Exodus is "conceived".

The Stranger appears in Sosaria for the first time, entering through the moongate known as the "Siege Perilous". (U1 doc; U3 doc)

Shamino returns from the Lands of Danger and Despair, leaving behind his betrothed, to assist British with the return of Mondain.

With the threat of Mondain imminent, Lord British overrules the banning of magic by the Sosarian Lords in previous decades, so that their own mages may be trained to help against Mondain. The cult of runes and the Cult of Truth emerge from hiding.

The Stranger uses a time machine to step outside of natural time and penetrate Mondain's stronghold. In the ensuing battle, the Stranger shatters Mondain's Gem of Immortality and then slays Mondain. The Gem, now shattered into three separate shards, are accidentally scattered among the crumbling ruins of his castle as the stranger flees.

The release of magic at Mondain's death causes great upheaval, rending time and space as his stronghold is sent back to the natural world of Sosaria, in the ocean off the coast of the Lands of Lord British. 3/4ths of the world disappears. This may possibly have been a magical fail-safe device of Mondain's, designed to make Lord British's realm disappear, leaving the rest of Sosaria ripe for Mondain's conquest.

In the Lands of Danger and Despair, now in their own separate world, the Ophidian orders are established after the enlightenment from being contacted by the Great Earth Serpent. The name of the world is changed to Serpent Isle. Unknown persons cross orcs with humans to create a more humanoid race: The Goblins. The goblins destroy both Shamino's kingdom and the Kingdom of the white dragon.

Shamino is trapped in the Lands of Lord British. Nobody knows of the Serpent Pillars at this time.

The three liche-kings who bound themselves to Mondain's jewel, somehow were granted a portion of immortality beyond the destruction of the Gem. A large band of knights and powerful mages track down the three liche-kings and entomb them for all time, unknowing how to destroy them.

[210 P.B.]

Shortly after Mondain's death, Silver Time Gates appear in Sosaria. (U2 doc)

A single orc appears in a farmer's field. Despite the fact that only a malevolent wizard would have created the orc and not stepped forward, the people refuse to admit that a new power of evil is growing. (U2 doc)

[200 P.B.]
(Approximately 10 ("several") years pass.) (U2 doc)

Minax, now grown, begins her plans by traveling through the Silver Moongates to the era outside of time known as "Legends". She attack's the homeworld of Lord British and the Stranger who slew her lover and master. The Timeline of Earth is badly altered and changed.

The Stranger (Avatar) appears in Sosaria again. Barely able to escape the Timeline change due to Lord British' intervention. [U2 doc]

[[[ The following events take place outside the normal timeline. ]]]

In New San Antonio, the Stranger purchases Enilno, the Quicksword, from Sentri the Swashbuckler (1990 AD)

With the help of a stranger known as Antos, the stranger finds a way to breach the place of Legends and confront Minax (2112 AD, and 1990 AD)

In the place of Legends, outside of time itself, Minax is defeated by the Stranger within the castle Shadowguard.

The Stranger returns to Earth a moment after the timeline was changed, but now back in normal flow. Nobody on Earth knows what happened, as such is the nature of time restoration.

[[[ Timeline resumes normal flow. ]]]

[180 P.B.]
(Approximately 20 years pass in Sosaria.) (U3 BoP)

The diary of Minax is found in the wreckage of castle Shadowguard. The writings hint that Minax and Mondain had been lovers, and produced an offspring, but little more.

[160 P.B.]
The city of Moon is founded.

[80 P.B.]
A century of peace passes, the Legacy of Mondain and Minax is forgotten by newer generations.

The Isle of Fire rises from the sea as molten lava spewing from underwater volcanos.

Monsters begin attacking Sosarian settlements.

A Pirate fleet appears at sea, sweeping all other ships of commerce before it.

Exodus summons the Balance Serpent (also known as the Great Earth Serpent) from its home in the Ethereal Void, and it takes position at the harbor entrance of the Isle of Fire.

On the Lands of Danger and Despair, the War of Imbalance breaks out. [It is at this time that the Silver Tree of Life, currently present in the Lands of Danger and Despair is destroyed. The Avatar, traveling back in time from the future Serpent Isle to the heart of the war of imbalance, restores the Silver Tree of life and then returns to the future.]

[74 P.B.]
A ship is found sailing abandoned, devoid of crew, with the word "Exodus" scrawled in blood on its deck.

Lord British commissions several people to map out the land in preparation for whatever evil onslaught Exodus is preparing.

[73 P.B.]
Sentri crosses over from Earth to Sosaria.

[72 P.B.]
The cartographer Hawkwind discovers the functioning of the moongates. Before he can communicate the knowledge, he is attacked and gravely wounded outside Castle Britannia

Shamino returns from his mission of mapping the interior of Castle Death, on the Isle of Fire. The experience renders him temporarily insane.

The last of the Line of Lost Kings perishes, with no heir to claim the throne, the Lands of Lord British begin to divide into bickering city-states.

[71 P.B.]
The Stranger reappears in Sosaria, and journeys as a fellowship for the first time with Iolo, Dupre and Shamino.

The lost island of Ambrosia is rediscovered.

The Stranger consults with the Time Lord for the first time.

The Stranger and his companions destroy Exodus in his Castle. This triggers a violent set of cataclysms that rearranges much of the land, destroying several cities in the process. The destruction is likely the result of Exodus losing control over his transformation mechanisms (used to raise the Isle of Fire in the first place), due to his interface to the natural world being destroyed. Most of the towns of the Lands of Lord British are utterly destroyed in this cataclysm except for Yew, Paws and the capitol towne of Britain. The Tower of Knowledge and the Pillars of Protection are destroyed. The cult of Truth disappears from history altogether.

Final forces of evil defeated in a vast battle on the Bloody Plains. Thousands of soldiers die on both sides in the conflict.

Nearly seventy years pass as the world recovers from devastation and Anarchy. Famine, plagues, rioting and wars engulf the land for decades. Lord British keeps the kingdom together as best as he can. It is noted that Lord British and many of his offworld associates do not seem to age.

Current calendar begins. [year 0000 A.B, "After Britannia"]

City-states band together and form Britannia, electing Lord British as Sovereign ruler and Monarch. The Kingdom of Britannia is formed.

The system of Virtues is established. The eight townes representing a virtue each begin construction. Magincia loses site of the town's representation of humility and becomes a city of pride.

The three great keeps of the principles are erected, Empath Abbey, the Lycaeum and Serpent's Hold. The hold being built upon the ruins of Montor East.

Lord British commissions three Shrines of Principle to be built on the Isle of Fire, the former abode of Exodus.

"The Quest of the Avatar" is announced by Lord British.

[0005 AB]
Erstam and many others protest Lord British's system of virtues, and leave Britannia for the Serpent Isle after discovering the Serpent Pillars. (SI doc)

The gargoyles summon the spirits of Mondain, Minax and Exodus to inhabit their three Shrines of Principle. Exodus' summoning causes the Isle of Fire to sink into the sea, not to be seen again for over three centuries.

Sir Percy rids the Islands near the Cape of Heroes of evil dragons and becomes the first member of the Order of the Silver Serpent. The Order of the Silver Serpent is officially established by Lord British. Serpent's Hold becomes the Order's headquarters.

Sentri is given the title of Baron and oversees Serpent's Hold.

[0045 AB]
The town of Magincia is destroyed by demons, presumably for the pride of its inhabitants. (U4 HOB, UW1 MoSC)

[0080 AB]
The stranger, the hero who vanquished Mondain, Minax and Exodus returns to Britannia.

The stranger gathers eight companions. Eight companions to represent the eight virtues. They include: Geoffrey, Mariah, Katrina, Jaana, Julia, Shamino, Iolo and Dupre. Most of these are friends of Lord British from Earth. It is possible Lord British commanded these ones to accompany the stranger when he began the Quest of the Avatar.

The stranger retrieves the artifact known as the "skull of Mondain" from a deep well in the Great Sea. The well is the original site of the stranger's battle with Mondain, as evidenced by the three volcanic plumes nearby - caused by the three Shards. The removal of the skull caused two things to happen: a volcanic island arose (on which Blackthorn's castle was built), and the Shards were knocked loose. Later, when the raising of the Codex caused the Underworld to be formed, the Shards were carried from that location to almost directly under Empath Abbey, where they were later found by Captain Johne.

The stranger throws the Skull of Mondain into the Abyss, opening the Abyss permanently and destroying the skull.

The stranger descends into the Abyss with eight companions, and enters the Chamber of Virtue at the bottom. The Codex is found, where the stranger reads from it, and officially becomes "The Avatar". The Avatar returns to Earth.

[0086 AB]

Lord British forms the Great Council.

Monks of Empath Abbey begin making wine.

[Later in this era...]

Great Council raises the Codex from the GSA, and enshrines it on the Isle of the Avatar.

Geological instability induced by the raising of the Codex causes the formation of the Underworld. Creatures begin pouring out of the dungeons again.

The Great Council seals the eight dungeons.

August 09

Avatar frees the castle after freeing eight other worlds from the Guardian.

[0364]

February

Approximately six months later: Avatar et al pass through the Serpent Pillars to the Serpent Isle.
(In the process, they "skip ahead" in time a small amount, enough for Imbalance to begin affecting Britannia.)

Imbalance storms begin. The Royal Mint is teleported/exchanged with a building from Serpent Isle.

Dupre sacrifices his life to restore the Chaos Serpent. His soul becomes one with the Chaos Serpent.

The Avatar restores balance upon the Serpent Isle, but is drawn into the Ether in the process, falling into the hands of the Guardian, who banishes him to the world of Pagan.

[Roughly twelve years pass and the first quest takes place in Legacy in the year 0376]

[Following the events of Ultima 8: Pagan beginning approximately in the year 0380]

Arriving upon the shores of Pagan, the Avatar sought a way to return to Britannia. His struggle was long and difficult as the Avatar learned of his true destiny, to become the Titan of Ether. Learning of an ancient temple once within Pagan, the Avatar gathered together five pieces of Blackrock to capture and contain the four Titans of Pagan. Mastering the magics of Necromancy, Tempestry, Theurgy, and Sorcery, the Avatar stole the other Titans' power, and emerged as the Titan of Ether. Using the Blackrock pieces, he was able to recreate a Black Gate, thus opening a path back to Earth, but without a means back to Britannia.

Over the next approximate 200 years, Britannia slowly falls into a state of general decline. While the Fellowship remains banned, many speak openly of the Guardian's power and the absence of the Avatar.

The leadership of the Great Keeps of the Principles begin openly questioning Lord British's leadership. References to the Mad Mage Erstam and his expedition to the Serpent Isles to escape the "Beast British" are often heard in taverns by drunken bards and troublemakers.

Piracy and brigands become more prevalent in the lands, as remaining guards are kept closer to the cities for protection. Buccaneer's Den becomes a central stronghold of lawnessness.

The isle of Spektran becomes settled by refugees, and is rebranded as "Haven" after a strange fable involving an undead future.

[During the events preceeding Ultima 9: Ascension approximately in the year 0565]

The Guardian's forces invade Britannia, their Wyrmguard armies being led by the former Lord Blackthorn. The Guardian caused eight Blackrock pillars to arise from the shattered remains of the Shrines of Virtue, each with their corresponding Rune corrupted into a twisted Glyph that poisoned the people of Britannia similar to the time of the Shadowlords. Lord British, sinking further and further into despair, retreated from his duties to the lands.

The Gargoyle isle of Terfin was overrun by the Guardian's forces, and a stronghold was established. The Gargish race fled to the underwater city of Ambrosia.

Empath Abbey was destroyed due to rising floodwaters near Yew, and the Monks fled to the city of Britain to establish the Cathedral of Love.

The Lycaeum, distrustful of others, sealed themselves behind magical barriers to prevent the Guardian's assault. Many mages go into hiding to flee persecution.

Serpent's Hold was submerged by the sea from the upheavals by the Guardian's magics. Jhelom also became uninhabitable, and its survivors were forced to make refuge in nearby created volcanic isles to establish Valoria.

The moongates were disabled due to the effect of the Guardian's columns, pulling the two moons Trammel and Felucca towards Britannia.

[During the events of Ultima 9: Ascension approximately in the year 0575]

Acting on the advice of Hawkwind the Time Lord, the Avatar returned to Britannia, only to see the keep of the Guardian looming above the isle of Terfin. Narrowly rescued from death, the Avatar began his quest within Stonegate, once-home to the Shadowlords. Meeting with Lord British, the Avatar set forth on his final quest to save Britannia from its enemies, and as he traveled, he met old friends and enemies, as well as new friends and allies, and as each Shrine of Virtue was restored, he came that much closer to defeating the Guardian. Sir Dupre is resurrected from the Ethereal Void.

Finally, nearing the end of his quest, the Avatar learned the true nature of the Guardian. Following the events of the First Age of Enlightenment, the Avatar, having purged all evil from his being, accepted the title and responsibility of Avatarhood. This residual evil later coalesed into what was to become the Guardian, an anti-avatar of the Virtues, bent on destroying the lands of Britannia. With the Runes and Sigils of Virtues at hand, the Avatar traveled to the Guardian's stronghold on Terfin.

By use of the Codex of Ultimate Wisdom, the Avatar and his Companions used the cleansed Runes within each of the Columns, and crafted the Sigils into the Barrier of Life. Thus, casting the forbidden spell of Armageddon, the Avatar sacrificed his life for the sake of Britannia, and destroyed the Guardian and ascended into the heavens, bringing peace and prosperity back to the shattered lands.

The Columns of the Guardian were destroyed during the backlash of power from the Avatar's protected Armageddon spell. The resulting power also destroyed the Guardian's former stronghold, but lingering rumors of the Wyrmguard's presence still remain.

Due to the destruction of Ambrosia during the Avatar's quest, the Gargish race became extinct. The Council is rumored to be protecting a sacred relic of the Gargoyles.

The Three Great Keeps of the Principles are recovered from the Guardian's forces and rebuilt. There remained much lingering resentment over the Guardian's occupation of the lands, and the resulting damage that was suffered. The Companions of the Avatar are appointed as Mayors of their respective Cities.

Sightings of monsters and beasts from the Great Dungeons are reported with increasing occurance. Lord British attempts an expedition, but is overruled by his Council. Shortly thereafter, the King is rumored to fall to a magical illness.

Following the events of Ultima 9: Ascension, and the heroic sacrifice of the Avatar via the Armageddon spell, Ultima Legacy Reborn recommences.
